Where It All Began

JJ and I have been seriously marketing online together for about 18 months now, some days it feels like only yesterday and somedays we feel like old pro’s.

We have decided to do a little trip down marketing lane to mainly revist and highlight our mistakes so you dont make them too! ;-)

It will be a mini series of posts collected in the “our journey - warts and all” category and I’m sure there will be some excellent points for everyone.

We will also try to incorporate some reviews of the many ebooks and software tools we have invested in. Notice I say invested, this is because there is a learning curve you must go through with key ingredients like:

- niche selection

- keyword research

- basic html

- basic seo

If you want to make serious money in online marketing then you must take it serious, if you treat it as a hobby you can only go so far. You must be willing to invest your time and energy, there is NO magic solution! Dont let me put you off, it DOES pay off :-)

Our First site!

This site grew from a little test JJ performed with a couple of articles and a free blog. JJ drove traffic to a blog where he had written a review on a natural health product and to his surprise he generated a couple of sales!  We wrote more articles and made more sales!

This is when we decided to build our first site! Our first site has a lot of sentimental value (yes I know its wrong), I cant tell you the number of times we said “thats it, we are not changing it any more” :)

Well, by my reckoning we have changed it 5 times !!!!!!!!!!!

Started in Frontpage - 5 pages

Changed to HTML

Changed again the colour , header, layout - 10 pages

Updated to CSS

Updated to PHP - now 40 pages of content

This little site now rakes in an average of $400 per month with no additional effort. OK, not earth shattering, but we can now make a site like this very quickly, promote it with our linking strategy and sit back and let the income start to roll in.  Not all the sites we build are a success, but a lot are.  Its a numbers game really. Once you get the hang of it, get your toes wet and learn along the way, you will find your system.

We have been distracted so many times with the latest and greatest launch but always return to this model. Our affiliate VRE Site System is now getting out of control and we are in the middle of recruiting a full time Virtual Assistant to look after our daily tasks so we can focus on new ventures.  JJ will post more on the VA part later.

Hope you enjoy our mini series and don’t be afraid to ask any questions.

To your success

Jason & JJ

Perfect, this is exactly what I’m needing. I have a web site that is down at the moment, thinking of just turning it on for 1 month to capture all my “Stuff” on it, but want to do something more professional and considering turning my website into more of a blog atmosphere.
I like the idea of posting daily or weekly changes to my industry (credit card processing merchant services) and such, and offering my site to my clients as well. What do you think?
the domain name is phoenixmoneylady.com and I’ll turn it on shortly if I still can.
Anyway, I’m excited, thanks, will be asking questions no doubt sooner than later.

thanks for finding me on twitter too!

Hi Laurel

A blog sounds great for daily or weekly interaction with your audience.

Drop by anytime. Look forward to hearing from you soon.

Re….”We have been distracted so many times with the latest and greatest launch but always return to this model.”
Neveer truer words!
Distractions I think are everyones worst enemy, esp. online . Really enjoying your blog.

So true, so true. Staying focused and not product jumping is the key. If I bought every product emailed to me DAILY, I would be broke and still none the wiser :-) I will be a regular reader of your Blog! Keep up the good work.

What a great blog guys keep up the good work.
What linking strategy do you use, and what business model are you talking about? Hope you will share some quality content with us, we all would really appreciate it.
