How To Test A Product or Niche With Articles

By JJ · Tuesday, November 25th, 2008

Before Jason and I go all out and build a 30 to 50 page niche content review site, we like to test the niche and affiliate products to ensure they are profitable.  There are many ways you can do this, the quickest will be using ppc.  However, I am going to show you how you can use articles and free blogs to quickly test a niche, once you have chosen a niche and product to test…

1. Create a blog with a review or reviews of products within a niche.

2. Write 10 articles or enough articles to generate at least 100+ clicks to your review blog and submit to Ezinearticles.  make sure your articles are targeted to specific longtail keywords for the niche or product.

3. Check conversions.

At this stage, all you are interested in is the conversion - not the cost of articles.  Whether that be the time it takes to you write them or the cost of oustourcing.  You want to know if you can generate sales.

If the experiment generates sales, you can start to build your content site or continue to use your free blog.  If you don’t generate sales after at least 100 clicks then you need to either change your review, change your affilaite product or move on.  Personally, I would tweak the review or product before moving on.

Let me expand with a recent test I performed on a very populare niche and a specific product for that niche.  I am not going to reveal the niche, but I will reveal the affiliate program.

The niche is an evergreen niche - ie people will always suffer from this problem and it is full of desperate buyers.

So I set up a free blogger and created a review of the product.  I wrote 11 articles - it was going to be 10, but I got carried away and wrote 2 articles on a specific keyword.

Those 11 articles and free blog generated $194 in sales within 10 days from 586 click thrus on the resource box and 111 click thrus to the merchant page.  The merchant page converted at 1:23.  On average every 23 visitors I sent to the merchant page generated a sale.  These are pretty good results!

Not huge, but enough to tell me the niche was profitable and worth investment.

Lets revisit the conversions.  There are a number of factors as to why this test converted.  My articles were very good at driving traffic to the review.  The review was an excellent pre-sell of the product and the product itself converted great, especially since I was sending ‘hot’ traffic to it.

Another point to cinsider is that this was after 10 days. Those articles should continue to generate traffic. So there you have it - how to test products and niches with with articlesI am telling you this to show you it’s not difficult to quickly test products or niches and to turn a profit with article marketing.
